THE INNER LOOP GREENBELT – FINAL PHASE OF FIREWISE PREVENTION PROJECT

  • Apr 4, 2020
  • 2 min read

The final phase of the Firewise Prevention project, trimming dead limbs and removing dead trees and flammable ground materials, will begin the week of April 6 behind the units on the inside of the neighborhood (“inner loop greenbelt”). Because of expected rainy weather, the project may take 4-5 days.

The Brightview trimming crew will be happy to entertain requests from these unit owners for removal of (especially) dead limbs of trees growing in the greenbelt common area, and limbs overhanging decks or impacting unit gutters. (Please note that trimming of front and side yard trees are not included in this project.) Workers have been asked to respond to reasonable requests from owners while they are working behind your units. Feel free to have them check trees that appear to be dead, keeping in mind that the City of Austin is not allowing removal of live trees until June 30, due to the spread of oak wilt and other diseases. The general manager of Brightview’s trimming crew is Justin Jordan, who is a certified arborist and can make a decision on whether a tree is dead and can be removed.

Please note that during this same period, weather permitting, the inner loop grass will be treated with Top Choice fire ant elimination chemical, which is harmless to humans and animals. The nice feature of Top Choice is that it lasts for one year or more.

The above projects are being carried out to enhance the safety of those who choose to take the Board’s recommendation to use the inner loop greenbelt as a play area. Future projects (as our budget allows) will focus on enhanced erosion control and other improvements in the inner loop area.

The Board is happy to take these small steps to “clean up” the common inner loop greenbelt of dead trees and ground debris, and to get rid of the fire ant mounds. The inner loop is a potential recreational area of our neighborhood that should not be overlooked.

We hope you continue to enjoy our comfortable and safe neighborhood.

Your Board of Directors
